This study aims to investigate the commuting patterns of new town residents in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The results show that new town residents highly depend on Seoul in terms of job location, and therefore, have longer commuting distances. Even in the same city, the commuting distance of new town residents are much longer than those of old town residents. This is because most of new town residents moved from Seoul to new towns, having their jobs in Seoul. The findings suggest the importance of new town locations in terms of transportation. The current locations of new towns, 20-28Km distance from Seoul`s CBD, are not viable choices for the efficient urban form as well as transportation efficiency.
