『삼국유사(三國遺事)』의 용왕(龍王)과 용궁(龍宮) 형상(形象) = The Forms of Dragon King and His Underwater Palace in Samgukyusa

국문 초록 (Abstract)

『三國遺事』에서는 용왕을 神人이라고 하기도 하고 畜生이라고 하기도 한다. 용왕을 축생이라고 하는 까닭은 부처나 高僧의 권능을 강조하고 용왕을 불교세계의 질서에 편입 시키기 위함이다. 용왕의 거주지인 용궁 또한 불교세계의 질서에서 예외가 아니다. 그 근거를 고승의 역할에서 찾을 수 있다. 고승만이 용궁 출입을 하고 고승만이 용궁을 우주 질서에 편입시킨다고 하면서, 고승이야말로 불교적 우주 그물망을 형성하는 주역이라고 한다. 불교적 우주 그물망 속에 들어간 용왕은 독자성이 없으며, 오로지 고승에게 기대어야 野蠻 狀態를 벗어날 수 있다. 정황이 이렇다면 고승에 의해 龍宮 風情이 나타나야 하겠지만, 그렇지는 않다. 용궁의 위용을 숨기느라고 용궁 풍정을 드러낼 수가 없었다. 용왕과 용궁 형상을 총괄해보면, 두 가지의 사상적 특징이 포착된다. 對稱的 世界觀이 불교신앙의 수단으로 활용된다는 점과 `중생-부처` 구도의 공효가 우주적으로 확장된다는 점이 그것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Samgukyusa, the Dragon King is depicted as a man-god or beast. The Dragon King is called a beast to emphasize the authority of Buddha or high priest and include the Dragon King in the order of Buddhist world. The underwater palace of Dragon King is no exception to the order of Buddhist world, either, and the grounds can be found in the roles of high priests. It is said that only high priests can enter the underwater palace of Dragon King and bring the palace in the order of universe as the leading figure to establish the Buddhist cosmic network, in which the Dragon King has no independence and has to depend on a high priest to escape his current situation. Given those circumstances, it feels natural that the landscape of the palace should be revealed by a high priest, but it is not the case. The landscape of the palace cannot be shown because the dignity of the palace should be hidden. There are two ideological characteristics of Dragon King and his underwater palace in terms of form: the symmetrical world view is used as a means of Buddhist faith, and the virtue of "people-Buddha" structure is expanded in a cosmic fashion.
