Biological methane production, which produces methane from carbon dioxide and hydrogen is being examined as an alternative process for solving global warming and the diminishing supply of fossil fuels.
In the article, we have reviewed a large body of the recent work regarding the biochemical aspects of methanogens used to increase the productivity of this biological methane production. In this review we included explanations on which routes carbon dioxide is reduced into methane, the enzyme and coenzyme involving the CO_2-reducing pathway, the synthesis of the methanogen cellular materials, and the mechanism of ATP.
