The purpose of this study is to identify some preferred characteristics of the Continued Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) by those baby-boomer generations soon retiring. A web-based online survey was conducted with middle-class baby-boomers, born in between 1955 and 1963, living in the Seoul-Incheon-Gyengki capital area and the five metropolitan cities of Korea. The results obtained that they preferred living near big cities after retirement; 61.5 % of them had no intentions to live with their children; a combination of independent and assisted living was the most preferred form of the CCRCs; more than half of them preferred living in the CCRCs; and CCRCs livings were also particularly preferred by those who wanted separate livings from their children. Among the four Community-linked Retirement Communities, the Hospital-based one was most popular. The University-based and Religion-based ones were then preferred by females than males. The results obtained here can be used for reflecting the dwellers needs when planning a CCRCs.
