기업 윤리와 탈근대성 = 기업 윤리의 사회학적 분석을 위한 일 제언

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 기업윤리는 자본주의의 지속가능성을 평가하는 긴요한 규범으로서 부상하고 있다. 그러나 기존의 기업 윤리 연구는 개인의 삶과 제도의 형성에 광범위한 영향력을 발휘 하는 사회 문화적 변인에 대한 심층적 탐색을 수행하지 못하고 있다. 기업 윤리의 형성 및 변용 과정을 규명하기위해서는 문화와 경제사이의 연관성을 규명하는 사회학적 통찰력을 발휘 해야 한다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 ‘자본주의 정신’과 ‘탈근대성’에 초점을 맞춰 기업 윤리를 조망한다. 막스 베버(Max Wever)에 따르면 ‘자본주의 정신’이란 기존 질서에 대한 비판 및 그에 대응하는 자기 합리화 과정을 통해 사회적 레짐(regime)을 형성해 가는 자본주의 사회의 인식적 기제이다. 이러한 아이디어는 볼탄스키와 치아펠로(Boltanski & Chiapello)의 ‘새로운 자본주의 정신’ 논의를 통해 새롭게 검토 된다. 현대 기업의 정당성은 자본주의의 정당성과 상통한다. 따라서 자본주의 혁신의 힘은 기업의 윤리성에 대한 사회적 기대 수준에 달려 있다고 볼 수 있다. ‘새로운 자본주의 정신’으로서 신자유주의는 다양한 경로를 통해 정당성에 대한 검증을 요구받고 있다. 이와 더불어 세계화, 정보화, 네트워크화, 신자유주의화, 위험사회화 등의 시대적 흐름은 기업윤리의 확장 국면을 이끈다. 이를 종합하면, 현재 나타나고 있는 기업 윤리 담론은 가치적 측면의 ‘성찰성(reflexivity)’, 구조적 측면의 ‘확산성(diffuseness)’, 행위적 측면의 ‘공공성(publicness)’ 증대라는 탈근대의 사회 문화적 특성에 의해 영향을 받는다고 평가할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Business ethics is emerging as a significant value to measure sustainability of capitalism. Against this backdrop, the aim of this study was to define and verify structural background and socio-cultural variables that affect the acceptance of business ethics. French sociologists Luc Boltanski and Eve Chiapello provided a new perspective in their work The New Spirit of Capitalism. They defined “the spirit of capitalism” as an ideology that justifies people’s devotion to capitalism and makes such devotion attractive. The legitimacy of modern businesses is in line with the legitimacy of capitalism. To restore one’s legitimacy, it is necessary to attain ethics that can integrate a rigorous verification process based on criticism. Eventually the motivation to reform “neo liberalism” as a new spirit of capitalism in crisis today depends on the perspective of society towards business ethics. A recent phenomenon of expanding business ethics is affected by the socio-cultural phenomena such as globalization, informatization, networkization, neoliberalization and risk-socialization. Thus the construction of today’s business ethics is affected by the socio-cultural characteristics of the post-modern society. Therefore sociologist should be explore business ethics through a macro socio-cultural perspective.
