This study was performed to propose guidelines for using proper physical terminologies in high-schools physics textbooks.
Preference and comprehension tests were performed with 33 terminologies and newlymade terms.
Most students preferred the terms currently being used in the textbooks to the newlymade terms, indicating
that they preferred the terms that were familiar to them. However, some newlymade terms, those
which seemed to clearly express physical phenomenon and to be easily understandable,
were more preferred by the students. There was no difference between the students
who chose the terminologies in the textbook and those who chose newlymade terms. Also, the lower the comprehension
of the terminologies was, the more the students preferred the newlymade terms.
