영상 타이포그래피에서 스토리텔링 구조에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

디지털영상 환경은 인프라와 기반기술의 혁신적인 변화로 인해 인간의 전통적인 전달 매개인 음성언어와 문자언어의 역할과 기능을 변화시키고 있다. 인쇄매체 영역이 근간인 타이포그래피는 문자가 지닌 속성과 기능상의 한계로 음성언어의 영역과 문자언어의 영역이 명확히 구분되어 사용되어 왔으나 디지털 영상매체의 환경 변화와 사용자 요구의 증대로 인해 특정적인 언어기능을 넘어 말과 글의 기능적 영역을 통합한 영상 타이포그래피가 타이포그래피의 기능적 한계점을 극복할 수 있는 커뮤니케이션 매개로 성장하고 있다.
영상 타이포그래피는 타이포그래피의 기본적인 기능인 인간의 정보코드를 기록하고 전달하는 관습적인 형태에서 벗어나 새로운 패러다임으로 과거와는 다른 형식과 방법으로 인간의 커뮤니케이션을 주도하고 있으며 타이포그래피 영역은 변화되고 있는 영상매체의 다양화와 영상매체 기능이 확장되어 단순한 매체의 영역에서 머물지 않고 인터랙션에 의한 커뮤니케이션 매체로 내러티브 구조가 변경되고 있으며 이는 영상 타이포그래피가 과거의 인쇄매체 타이포그래피 영역과는 다른 커뮤니케이션으로 확장되어야 하는 기능과 역할에 대한 변화이다.
이러한 관점에서 본 논문은 영상 타이포그래피가 커뮤니케이션 과정에서 정보를 조직하고 구성하는 방식에 대하여 연구하고자 하였으며 언어와 타이포그래피의 관계를 고찰하고 글자 형태가 지니는 의미와 글자의 움직임이 지니는 의미 그리고 정보전달체계에 대한 분석과 영상 타이포그래피에서 나타나는 스토리텔링 구조를 분석하고 분류하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Due to fundamental changes in infrastructure and underlying technologies digital image environment is transforming the role and function of colloquial and written languages a traditional human medium of communication. As typography utilizes a printing medium a clear boundary has been set between verbal and written languages for its innate functional limitations. Environmental changes in digital image medium and growing demand of users however have enabled the growth of kinetic typography which eliminates functional boundaries of spoken and written language emerging as a communication medium expected to overcome the limits of typography.
Departing from basic traditional typographic forms of recording and transmitting human information code kinetic typography takes new paradigmatic approaches to drives evolutionary changes of human communication. Influenced by diversification and functional expansion of image medium the area of typography is no longer limited to simplified image medium. Driven by interactive communication its narrative structure is undergoing changes. This indicates the path that kinetic typography is taking to march into a new realm of communication with expanded functions and roles parting from traditional printing medium typography.
Against this backdrop this paper examines the way kinetic typography organizes and structures information in the process of communication. The relations between language and typography were studied and semantic analysis of letter forms and movements were conducted as well as the analysis of information delivery system. Through these efforts storytelling structure exhibited by kinetic typography was analyzed and categorized.
