This study deals with the possibilities and limitations in constructing Northeast Asian regional cooperation. It proposes the Northeast Asian security-economic regime as a regional cooperation system including South Korea, the U.S., Japan, China, Russia, North Korea, Taiwan, and Mongolia. Specifically speaking, this research paper presents two mutually stimulating regimes―cooperative security regime and free trade regime in Northeast Asia―for the regional security-economic cooperation in the region. In order to construct the security regime, the regional nations need to cooperate for solving the nuclear weapon development program in North Korea, and for forming the Japan-China arms control agreement. Also, they need to construct a free trade area including South Korea, Japan, and China for the regional economic cooperation, and ultimately to expand it a big free trade area including all the regional nations. Shortly, we need the security-economic regime for the stability and prosperity in Northeast Asia.
