재즈댄스의 정의(定議)를 찾아서

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

To a simple question asking what jazz dance is, we usually provide too much explanation or do not even give clear answers. In other words, there is no clear definition of jazz dance. Due to the absence of a definition of jazz dance, currently it is not accurately understood or explained. Moreover, its division from the existing pure dance like modern dance is not clear, and it can be even confused with genres like hip-hop dance and broadcasting dance newly appeared. Though jazz dance is open as a regular class in departments related to dance, physical education and musical, it only provides classes focusing on practice without any definite definition, which is pretty dangerous to establish an identity of the study. Owing to the necessity of clearer definition of jazz dance, this study aims to find the most suitable definition of jazz dance by collecting definitions of jazz dance mentioned by specialized magazines, theses and specialty publication published overseas. It will be an opportunity to definitize the division of jazz dance which is lack of academic basis or theoretical frames, and also considered to have various theoretical studies on jazz dance based on it. It is also expected that the definition of jazz dance will become useful data to educational institutes specialized in jazz dance including colleges.
