R&D 프로젝트 유형에 따른 효과적인 관리방식에 대한 연구: 탐색적 혁신 프로젝트와 활용적 혁신 프로젝트의 비교

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 프로젝트 유형별로 효과적인 프로젝트 관리방식의 차이를 파악하는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해서 프로젝트 유형을 탐색적 혁신형 프로젝트(exploratory innovation project)와 활용적 혁신형 프로젝트(exploitative innovation project)로 구분하였다. 탐색적 혁신형 프로젝트는 새로운 기술과 제품을 개발하는 데 초점을 두는 반면에 활용적 혁신형 프로젝트는 기존 기술과 제품을 개선하고 향상시키는 데 초점을 둔다. 또한 프로젝트 단계를 착수, 진행 및 완료 단계로 구분하였다. 분석결과 프로젝트 유형별로 중요한 요인별 관리방식이 상이함을 알 수 있었다. 탐색적 혁신형 프로젝트의 경우에는 상대적으로 덜 명확하게 목표를 설정하고, 팀원간의 약한 연계관계를 유지하고, 실험적인 방식에 의한 문제해결, 프로젝트 리더의 전문가 역할, 프로젝트 결과물의 경쟁력에 기반한 프로젝트 평가 방식 등이 중요하였다. 반면에 활용적 혁신형 프로젝트의 경우에는 상대적으로 명확하게 목표를 설정하고, 팀원간의 강한 연계관계를 유지하고, 계획적인 방식에 의한 문제해결, 프로젝트 리더의 전략적 계획 역할, QCD(quality, cost, delivery)에 기반한 프로젝트 평가 방식 등이 중요하였다.

The objective of this research is to find out the difference of effective project management styles by different project types. For this purpose, I classified project types into exploratory innovation project and exploitative innovation project. While the exploratory innovation project is focused on developing new technology and product, the exploitative innovation project is focused on refining and improving existing technology and product. I divided project management stages into three (i.e., starting stage, implementing stage and finishing stage) and compared the effective project management styles of exploratory and exploitative innovation project in each stage. From the results, I found that effective project management style is different based on project types. Important factors in exploratory innovation projects are less specific goal setting, weak ties among team members, experiment based problem solving, expert role of project manager, project evaluation in terms of competitiveness of project output. Important factors in exploitative innovation projects are more specific goal setting, strong ties among team members, planning based problem solving, strategic planning role of project manager, project evaluations in terms of quality, cost and delivery.
