마사 누스바움의 혐오감정 재구성과 시민교육적 함의: 혐오감정은 어떻게 정치가 되는가 = How do hate emotions become political: Reconstruction of Martha Nussbaum’s t hate emotion and implications for civic education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 우리 사회의 불평등에 깊게 관여하지만, 제대로 포착되지 못한 ‘혐오감정’에 입각해서 공동체의 위기를 바라보는 정치철학자는 어떠한 상상력을 발휘해야 하는지를 고찰해보고자 한다. 이를 위해 법, 정치, 철학, 문학, 윤리의 전 영역에서 ‘감정’의 가치를 평가하고 적용한 마사 누스바움(Nussbaum, Martha C)의 ‘혐오감정’ 개념을 재구성한다. 구체적으로 이성 지배의 공적 영역에서 감정이 어떻게 사회 정의에 관여하는지를 개관하고, 지양되어야 할 비합리적 감정으로서 혐오 감정의 발생원인(내용), 그것의 사회화, 정치화 과정을 전개한다. 혐오에 대한 누스바움의 서사적 통찰을 통해 궁극적으로 본 연구는 혐오감정을 반성적으로 사유해 보면서, 공감과 공존을 불가능하게 하는 혐오 감정의 정치철학적 의미를 공론화하고, 그에 대한 교육적 대안으로 ‘감정교육’의 중요성을 제시하고자 한다.

This article explores how a political philosopher who looks at crises of community through the lens of 'disgust', an emotion that is deeply involved in inequality in our society, but has not been adequately captured, should use his or her imagination. To do so, we reconstruct Nussbaum's (Martha C) concept of 'disgust', which has been used to value and apply 'emotions' in all areas of law, politics, philosophy, literature, and ethics. Specifically, it introduces how emotions intervene in social justice in the rational public sphere. Through Nussbaum's narrative insight into disgust, this study ultimately reconstructs disgust and discusses the political and philosophical implications of disgust as an irrational emotion that makes empathy and coexistence impossible. Finally, I propose the importance of 'emotion education' as an educational alternative.
