The purpose of this study was to analyse the old people concept and nursing perception toward elderly patients in order to contribute the improvement of geriatric nursing.
This study was to investigate the old people concept of baccalaureate nursing students and to investigate any possible correlation between nursing perception and following variables: respondents' growth place during junior and senior high school, experience with relatives or acquaintances over 60 years old, nursing experience of elderly patients, educational experience of the elderly health & geriatric nursing, and sibling numbers.
The subjects for tile elderly were 149 nursing students at C and H university locating in Seoul. Data was collected from 3th of Sep. to 8th of Oct. 1984 using 0ld People Concept questionnaire and Nursing Perception by OPQ.
The data were analysed by T-test and Pearson Correlation. The results which were obtained are as follows;
1. There was not a significant difference between nursing perception toward elderly patients and the experience with relatives or acquaintances over 60 years old. (p>0.05)
2. There was not a significant difference between nursing perception toward elderly patients and clinical experiences of geriatric patients. (p>0.05)
3. There was a significant difference between nursing perception toward elderly patients and educational experiences of the elderly health and geriatric nursing. (p<0.05)
4. There was not a significant difference between nursing perception toward elderly patients and sibling numbers. (p>0.05)
5. There was a significant difference between nursing perception toward patients and the degree of old people concept. (p<0.05)
