『Elementary School Japanese Language Reader(보통학교 국어독본)』(1912), this text is going to focus on, is the first textbook in official Korean language after Japanese language has been officialized in Korea. On 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book』, the copyright of ’the Japanese Government General of Chosun Print Office’ is printed as it shows the reality has been changed. This text focuses on 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book』 because it is the first educational material in ’official Korean’(Japanese) that specifically integrates Japan’s colonial discourse, which has started to appear after the port opening. As Daehan Empire’s 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book for Students』 had the intention to develop Chosun government’s civilization and modern sovereignty, the Japanese Empire’s 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book』specified its will to colonize Chosun that had been incorporated into them. That is why this textbook shows strong ideological bias. Given that education has the powerful influence to students politically-the Japneses Empire taught their ideology and value of colonization to Koreans at a young age so they would unconsciously agree with it. By doing this, the Japanese Empire exploited education to colonize Chosun. 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book』was the main expedient of Cultural Governance. The Japanese Empire superficially pretended to be under the slogan of equality, but they implemented the education of discrimination in real. As we can see from the phrase, “Be sure to consider about their period tendency and the cultural level”(the 3rd) of the First Educational Ordinance(1911.8), the Japanese Empire regarded Chosun as an inferior ethnic group than Japanese and tried to foster the tendency of idolizing and worshipping Japan. The Japanese Empire cunningly justified their intention through the fake theory of modernization, saying that Japanese people has been superior than people of Chosun since the ancient times, so that they had to conquer and exploit Chosun. From these facts, we can see that 『Elementary School Korean Language Reading Book』 was the text that materialized the political ideology in reality. Most of the Japanese view of colonialism, which was their ideology to conquer Chosun, seems like disappeared today, but it does exist in the deep side of Koreans’ mind as a form of collective memory. To recover our(Koreans) own integrity and rectify the distorted atmosphere, we need to actually be aware of the Japanese Empire’s colonialism.
