구조해석학과 의미구조의 재구성

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 독일어권의 사회학계에서 발전된 구조해석학(객관적 해석학)의 분석방법을 의미구조의 재구성이라는 관점에서 비판적으로 도입하는 것을 과제로 삼는다. 이 연구의 첫 번째 목표는 구조해석학의 다양한 저작들에서 개별적으로 발전된 방법론적 기초, 해석의 원칙, 추론의 논리, 실제적인 분석방법을 하나의 통합적 탐구과정으로 연계시키는 것이다. 두 번째 목표는 구조해석학의 대표자들이 객관적 해석학이라는 이름으로 표방해 온 방법론적 객관성 주장을 내재적으로 비판하고, ‘해석의 종결 불가능성’(딜타이)이라는 해석학적 인식론의 근본 명제가 구조해석학의 방법적 엄밀성에 의해 부정되는 것이 아니라 오히려 더욱 견고해짐을 논증하는 것이다. 방법론적 측면에서 구조해석학은 사회과학을 텍스트과학으로 재정립하고자 하며, 개별적 행위와 상호작용에서 작동하는 행위규칙과 의미구조를 재구성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위한 핵심적인 해석의 원칙은 상호작용의 시간적 전개에 대한 순차적 분석이다. 그리고 그러한 분석을 현실화하는 하위원칙은 연구대상에 대한 인위적 순진함에서 출발하는 사유실험과 해석 가설 형성, 텍스트 요소들에 대한 정밀분석에 기초한 의미의 확장이다. 구조해석학은 이러한 해석의 원칙하에 가설적 추론, 가설창안, 반증이라는 세 가지의 추론논리를 결합하여, 사례의 의미구조와 그것의 구조화 과정을 재구성한다. 실제적인 연구에서 이러한 재구성 작업은 가설 창안적인 해석가설 형성, 해석가설과 실제적 행위맥락과의 비교, 이를 통한 사례구조의 재구성과 일반화로 나아가는 절차를 밟아간다. 구조해석학의 분석방법은 상호작용 과정을 관통하는 사회적 의미의 구조와 동학을 분석하려는 목적을 위해, 탈맥락화된 이론 형성보디는 구체적 상호작용의 서사적 맥락을 재구성하고자 하는 관심으로, 특별한 이론적ㆍ실천적 의의를 갖는 매우 제한된 규모의 연구대상에 대해, 그리고 상호작용의 전개를 기록한 텍스트 자료의 해석에서 특별한 가치를 갖는다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article reconstructs the qualitative method of text analysis by structural hermeneutics(or objective hermeneutics) which has been developed by sociologists in german-speaking countries, with special emphasis on its application to the interpretive reconstruction of meaning structure. The purpose of this study is to link into an integrative process of inquiry its methodological foundation, principles of interpretation, logic of inference, and practical interpretive method which in general have been handled separately. From the methodological perspective the structural hermeneutics aims to reestablish social sciences as textual sciences by way of reconstructing action rules and meaning structures that are realized in the process of individual actions and interactions. The central principle of interpretation to reach this aim is that of a sequential analysis of the interaction process, the subprinciples of which are the stance of purposed naivity toward research objects, the formulation of interpretive hypotheses through a thought experiment, and the principle of precise analysis and explication of linguistic elements of texts. Under these principles the structural hermeneutics combines three logics of inference-hypothetical inference, abduction, and falsification, in order that from a special case its structure of meaning as well as the process of structuration can be reconstructed. In actual research practices, such reconstructive activities follow the procedure that moves from abductive formation of interpretive hypotheses through the comparison of those hypotheses and actual context of action on to a reconstruction as well as generalization of meaning structure. The structural hermeneutical methods of analysis are particularly relevant for studies (a) whose purpose is to analyze the structure and dynamics of social meanings, (b) that are interested in reconstructing the narrative context of a concrete process of interaction rather than in generating a decontextualized general theory, (c) about a very limited amount of research objects that are of striking theoretical or practical significance, and (d) with textual data in which a sequential stream of symbolic interactions are documented.
