With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, interest in interdisciplinary design education is on the rise. In line with the flow of this convergence era, the question of what kind of change the university has been preparing for design education became the trigger for starting this study.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the design curriculum of domestic and foreign universities to identify factors to be considered in order to develop future interdisciplinary design education. As a result of the interdisciplinary design education case study, in domestic universities, design curriculum that incorporates core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution such as AI, big data and AR/VR occupies a large proportion, while overseas universities not only provides technology-driven projects, but also offers projects that engage in social, environmental and ethical issues. In addition, it was found that an integrated roadmap for undergraduates and graduates and interdisciplinary convergence programs were activated in various ways. The development direction of multidisciplinary design education in Korea derived from this includes securing diversity of design projects such as social and environmental innovation beyond new technology-driven education, building an integrated education roadmap connecting undergraduates and graduates, and expanding extracurricular interdisciplinary convergence programs. At the same time, continuous institutional and economic support is needed to build a multidisciplinary educational environment, build a shared platform for industry-university cooperation, and strengthen educators’ capabilities. This study is meaningful in that it suggested improvement directions through the analysis of multidisciplinary design education and it is expected that it will serve as a basic data for the development of interdisciplinary design education 본 연구는 홍익대학교 신임교수 in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

4차 산업혁명의 도래와 함께 학제, 산업, 기술 간 융합 혁신을 도모하는 다학제적 융합 디자인 교육에관한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 융합의 시대적 흐름에 맞춰 대학의 디자인 교육이 어떤변화를 준비하고 있는가라는 의문점에서 출발하게 되었다. 따라서 이 연구는 디자인 중심의 다학제적융합 교육의 개념과 필요성을 고찰하고 국내외 대학의 융합 디자인 교육과정의 현황을 분석하여 디자인 중심 다학제적 융합 교육의 발전 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법은 문헌고찰과 산업통상자원부와 한국디자인진흥원의 융합 디자인 교육지원 사업에 선정된 국내 대학과 해외 우수 디자인 대학의 융합 교과 과정 사례연구 및 분석이다. 그 결과, 국내 대학은 AI, 빅데이터, AR/VR, 자율주행 등의 4차 산업혁명의 핵심기술을 접목한 디자인 커리큘럼이 큰 비중을 차지하는 반면 국외 대학은 기술 기반 프로젝트뿐 아니라 사회적, 환경적, 윤리적 이슈가 개입된 거시적이고 다양한 관점의 교육콘텐츠가 특징이었으며 학부와 대학원 과정의 통합적 로드맵과 다학제적 비교과 융합 프로그램이활성화되어 있음을 발견하였다. 이를 바탕으로 도출된 국내 융합 디자인 교육의 발전 방향으로는 교육콘텐츠와 학습 구성에 있어서 신기술 기반 융합 교육에서 나아가 디자인 주도의 사회적, 환경적 혁신을 위한 융합 콘텐츠의 확장, 학부와 대학원으로 연결되는 통합적 교육 로드맵 구축 및 자율적인 협업과 창작을 위한 학제 간 비교과 융합 프로그램의 활성화를 제안하였다. 이와 함께 다학제 협업 교육인프라 구축, 대학 간, 대학과 산업 간의 협업 연구를 위한 공유 플랫폼 구축, 교육자의 역량 강화와융합 교육 개발연구를 위한 지속적인 정부의 제도적, 경제적 지원 필요성을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 국내외 대학의 다학제적 융합 디자인 프로그램 현황 분석을 통해 발전 방향을 제시하였다는 데 의의가있으며 향후 융합 디자인 교육 개발에 기초자료가 될 수 있기를 기대한다.
