This paper is retrospective study of 231 cases of intussuception in infants and children admitted to the surgical and pediatric department of Soonchunhyang Chunan Hospital from March 1985 to December 1990 and the following results were obtained. 1) About 77% of the intussusception occurred in infants below 1 year-old-age. 2) The incidence rate of male to female was 2.5:1. 3) The seasonal variation was summer (31.2%), spring (29.9%), autumm (19.9%), and winter (19. 0%). 4) The clinical symptpms and signs were bloody mucoid stool (70%), abominal mass (67%), vomiting (65%), and abdominal pain (35%) in order of frequency. 5) The previous symptoims were URI (17.7%), diarrhea (7.8%), and no previous symptom (71%) 6) The antomical type of intussusception composed of ileocolic type (63.2%), ileoileocolic (10.4%), ileocecal (9.1%), and ileoileal (6.9%). 7) In the treatment of 231 cases of intussuception barium enema reduction was 116 cases (50.2%), manual reduction was 103 cases (44.6%), and intestinal resection was made in 12 cases (5.2%). 8) The overall recurrence rate was 8. 7%. The incidence of recurrence after barium enema reduction was 15,5%, but 1.7% after operative reduction. 9) Postoperative complications were developed in 11 cases (9.6%): pneumonia 5 cases, wound infection 3 cases, wound disruption 1 case, enterocutaneous fistula 1 case, adhesion 1 case. 10) The operative mortality was nil.
