The purpose of this study is to clarify R.S.Peters` Concopt of emotion in moral education. Especially, Peters explained the concept of emotion through the philosophical andlytic from. He insisted that the character of emotion is passivity and appraisals. In terms of retouching the traditional view that emotion and feeling is not rational, it can be said that his view is an extensive concept. However, he also limited the domain of emotion by denying the activeness of emotion. His saying that emotion is an appropriate appraisals established the fact Emotion can tie up with rationality. Peters tried to connect passivity with motivated act through the concept of rational passion. He attempted this work in order to be able to coexist and join emotion with reason together. If we are not concerned about all the things occurring in and around human being, we can achive nothing. Though we can judge that any action must be desirable by reason, we can not act practically unless we can be interested in any action. Emotion consists of two types; one is the self-centered, the other is the self-transcend. The former means jealously, envy, self-praise, the latter means love, reverence, a sense of justice and respect. Unless the latter can be united with rationality, it would make us blind followers. So Peters defined emotion as an inevitable moral matter. And he represented the content and method of moral education at the basis of the control and canalization of passivity, the development of appropriate appraisals. By considering his moral education not only on the point of moral but also cognitive form, he clarified that emotion can be educated. Moral education should be demanded urgently in order to exalt human development to rational passion from irrational.
