동학과 현대 과학의 생명사상 = Life Thoughts of Donghak and Modern Science

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to illuminate the theoretical closeness of Donghak and modern science from a standpoint of life, and at the same time to examine the indispensability of life paradigm and furthermore to suggest the politico-practical tasks for realizing and actualizing global life community. Since Life thoughts of Donghak and modern science make a priority of pursuing organic unity of regionalization and globalization, particularity and universality, nation-state and world civil society, we thus can find their ideological affinity for an interactive life politics beyond all kinds of duality, that is to say a grass-rooted democracy. Their view of life also reveals a theoretical closeness on that point of rejecting objective rationalism excluded from spirituality or the view of totality that has no concern in individuality and diversity.
The basis for the theoretical encounter of Donghak and modern science lies in the discovery of consciousness in modern physics. To understand the quantum mechanics view of the world which reveals failure in the dichotomy of subject and object, it is necessary to understand the organic relation of substance and process of life like ‘bulyon' and ‘giyon', mind and matter. The idea of Donghak and modern science from a standpoint of life is essentially an interactive on that point of being based on inseparability and non-duality. Their ideas are surely remarkable in that they are the new alternative for excessive anthropocentrism, dualistic thinking, and the limits of scientific methodology implicit in modern scientific rationalism, and at the same time in that they urge switchover to holistic life paradigm.
The most fundamental and overall politico-practical tasks for realizing and actualizing global life community are to establish a consilient view of life and to conduct systematic life education. That is to say, educational philosophy and educational system should make a fundamental change to consilient form and also be reorganized on the basis of an idea of life education. Energy and food problems are one of the biggest dilemmas that human beings are now faced. Nuclear waste disposal problem resulting from making nuclear weapons and nuclear power is also one of the most urgent issues to be solved, along with creating a regional large-scale energy and food complex. Next, health care and hygiene problems are also one of the biggest dilemmas. Finally, UN reform issue should be solved. To fulfill its function as the real world government, UN should be reborn as a union based upon transnational entity.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 동학과 현대 과학의 사상적 근친성을 생명의 관점에서 재조명함과 동시에 생명 패러다임의 긴요성에 대해 살펴보고, 나아가 지구생명공동체의 구현을 위한 정치실천적 과제를 제시하기 위한 것이다. 동학과 현대 과학의 생명사상은 지역화와 세계화, 특수성과 보편성, 국민국가와 세계시민사회의 유기적 통합성을 핵심 과제로 삼는 까닭에 일체의 이원성을 넘어선 소통의 생명정치, 즉 풀뿌리 민주주의와 이념적 친화성을 갖는다. 동학과 현대 과학의 생명관은 영성이 배제된 객관적 이성 중심주의 내지는 개성과 다양성이 배려되지 않은 전체성의 관점을 거부한다는 점에서 사상적 근친성을 갖는다.
동학과 현대 과학의 사상적 조우의 단초는 현대 물리학의 ‘의식’ 발견에 있다. 주체와 객체의 이분법이 성립하지 않는 것으로 드러난 양자역학적 세계관을 이해하기 위해서는 불연과 기연, 정신과 물질이라는 생명의 본체와 작용의 유기적 관계에 대해 이해할 필요가 있다. 생명의 관점에서 본 동학과 현대 과학의 사상은 비분리성․비이원성에 기초해 있다는 점에서 본질적으로 상통한다. 이들 사상은 근대의 과학적 합리주의가 함축하고 있는 과도한 인간 중심주의와 이원론적 사고 및 과학적 방법론의 한계성에 대한 새로운 대안인 동시에 전일적인 생명 패러다임으로의 전환을 촉구하는 것이라는 점에서 주목할 만하다.
지구생명공동체의 구현을 위한 가장 근본적이고도 총체적인 정치실천적 과제는 통섭적 생명관의 정립과 체계적인 생명교육의 실시이다. 교육철학 및 교육체계가 통섭적인 형태로의 근본적인 변환이 이루어져야 하며 생명교육 이념을 근간으로 재편되어야 한다. 에너지와 식량 문제 또한 인류가 직면한 가장 큰 난제 중의 하나다. 지역별 대규모 에너지․식량 단지 조성과 더불어 핵무기 제조와 핵 발전에서 발생하는 핵폐기물 처리 문제도 인류가 해결해야 할 시급한 과제다. 다음으로 건강관리와 보건위생 문제도 큰 난제 중의 하나다. 끝으로 유엔 개혁 문제이다. 유엔이 명실상부한 세계정부로서의 기능을 다할 수 있기 위해서는 초국적 실체에 기초한 연합으로 거듭날 필요가 있다.
