세월호 침몰 사건의 미디어 담론 분석 = 비판적 담론분석(CDA)과 빅데이터 언어네트워크 분석의 결합

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 세월호 침몰 사건과 관련한 미디어 보도를 비판적 담론 분석 틀에서 분석했다. 그리고 데이터양의 방대함에 따른 분석의 신뢰도를 높이기 위해 언어네트워크 분석을 적용했다. 보수와 진보 일간지로 나누어 5개 시기로 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 보수지에서 적극적으로 담론적 실천을 이룬 담론은 ‘정부·사회적 책임’ 담론과 ‘원인조사’ 담론이었고, 진보지에서는 ‘정부 책임’ 담론과 ‘진상규명’ 담론이었다. 보수지는 세월호 침몰을 사고로 규정하고 이에 대한 책임을 정부뿐 아니라 사회까지 포괄하는 책임론을 제기하면서 상대적으로 정부의 책임을 축소했다. 반면, 진보지에서는 세월호 침몰이 사고가 아닌 정부의 무능과 사회구조의 모순이 복합된 참사로 규정짓고 정부의 무능력을 강하게 비판했다. 양측의 담론은 체제를 방어하려는 보수 이데올로기와 체제의 개혁을 요구하는 진보 이데올로기를 내포하고 있었다. 이러한 이데올로기를 일상화시키기 위해 보수 일간지는 정부 책임 축소, 결과 축소, 사실 중심의 담론 전략을 사용하였고, 진보 일간지는 정부 책임 확대, 결과 확대, 맥락 중심의 담론전략을 사용하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research analyzed the media coverage of the Sewol Ferry incident within the critical discourse analysis (CDA) frame. For enhancing the credibility of big data, the semantic network analysis was adopted. The data was categorized by the media’s political stance － conservative and progressive － and into five time periods. The results show that the actively practiced discourses were the ‘governmental-societal responsibility’ and ‘cause-finding’ discourses in the conservative media’s side, and the ‘governmental responsibility’ and ‘fact-revealing’ discourses in the progressive media’s part. The conservative media defined the sinking of the ferry as a mere accident and held the whole society responsibly, hence reduced the governmental responsibility. On the contrary, the progressive media defined the ferry’s sinking as a complex disaster and criticized the government’s inability. Both sides’ discourses imply the conservative ideology of protecting the structure and the progressive ideology that requires the comprehensive reform. Conservative ideology was institutionalized with the reduced governmental responsibility, down-scaled results, fact-centered discourses, and the progressive ideology was institutionalized with the increased governmental responsibility, expanded results, and context centered discourses.
