      권영상 동시에 나타난 물질적 이미지 연구 = A Study on the Material Image of the Kwon Young-sang’ poems

      The purpose of this study is to analyze the material images that appeared in Kwon Young-sang’s poetry and to view Kwon Young-sang’s poetic-oriented world based on this. In this study, Gaston Bachelard’s concept of material image was used to analyze the material image of Kwon Young-sang. The material image advocated by Bachelard is an image based on the internal properties of the material that constitutes an object. According to Bachelard, the poet has a particularly preferred substance among water, fire, air, and soil, which is permanently reflected in the work. Therefore, the material image is an important clue in grasping the poet’s inner world.
      Kwon Young-sang is a poet who has consistently sang about contemplation and communion with nature. In his work, images of nature frequently appear, and among them, images of water and fire stand out. Therefore, we analyzed the material images that appeared in Kwon Young-sang, focusing on water and fire. In Kwon Young-sang’s poem, water was embodied as an image of self-awareness and reflection, a pathway to the ideal world, motherhood to fill the deficiency, and purification to restore purity. In addition, the fire reflected the joy of civilization and intelligence, the fundamental energy of life, and the image of extreme blessings toward the earth.
      Through the above analysis, the poetic orientation pursued by Kwon Young-sang is revealed as follows. First, Kwon Young-sang aims for a world in which all natural objects are organically connected according to the cosmic order. Second, it aims for a world of transformation in which alienated and suppressed values from the real world are overthrown within the poetic world. Third, it aims for a world where humans and nature coexist with a mind of consideration and inclusion.
      This study is meaningful in that it analyzed Kwon Young-sang’s poetry based on Bachelard’s theory.
