There is a new movement undergoing in architecture and design of today-a movement that is bringing back ornament and decoration in ways that are shocking, delightful, and original. Now after fifty years of glass boxes and plain white walls, ornament is back in style. Architects and artists have been developing a new decorative aesthetics. It is often called "Post-Modernism" or "Ornamentalism". Whatever it is called, it means a new use of decorative detail which arrests our attention to please and delight us.
The drive to decorate is an attempt to respond to the recognition of the facts that the sensual aspects of buildings are important and that buildings are emotional presences as well as intellectual ones. It is also an urge to tie our new architecture into the larger stream of historical continuity.
The purpose of this study is to establish an over view on the decorative phenomenon in current architecture by examining its evolution process and major characteristics.
