Polycarbonates are typical heat resistant engineering plastics. Polycarbonates are used in daily life and it can be applied in many fields such as automobile and construction industry. Recently, bio-mass monomers are important materials in many researches. In this study, isosorbide and diphenyl carbonate are used for melt polymerization of polycarbonates under different kind of catalytic sytems. Catalysts are selected by initial reaction rates for high molecular weight. We synthesized isosorbide polycarbonate(PIC) and copolycarbonate by isosorbide, bisphenol-a and diphenyl carbonate. PIC has high Tg and thermal stability tests at 300°C revealed that the samples were as stable as other polycarbonates. In addition, we measured properties of polycarbonates using different catalysts by GPC, TGA, DSC, and IR.
