In order for evaluating tendency of root absorption after fixed orthodontic treatments, a total of 120 malocclusion patients who visited orthodontic clinics in Seoul between 2005 and 2011 were divided into extraction group(n=63) and non-extraction group(n=57). The age of starting orthodontic
treatments is 11.2 in the extraction group, and 12.7 in the non-extraction group meaning a statistically significant difference between the groups(p<0.05). The treatment period of the extraction group was 3.1 years and that of the non-extraction group was 2.8 years meaning no statistically
significant difference between the groups(p>0.05). In both groups, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of sex and root absorption by tooth(p>0.05). The extraction group showed more root absorption than the non-extraction group but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups(p>0.05). However, maxillary lateral incisors of the extraction group showed more root absorption than the non-extraction group.
