Recovering the Role of Learning in the Korean Church

Today, an important issue for Korean Christians is how to live in a diverse society. This challenge to the Christian faith is the church’s most serious problem. The particular challenge reflected in Korea today derives from the effect of rapid change, and the clash between economic development, culture, and religious life. As a result, an important issue facing Christians is the widespread confusion concerning what is false and what is true. The need to learn the basics of the Christian faith in order to provide a strong sense of Christian identity is clear. Learning is part of the historical process through which history is made - not only in continuity with the past, but also in terms of the present and moving towards the future. Therefore, the Church must not fear in furthering its role as a “learner.” It should be a learning community.
