In order to find new resources of lipase inhibitors, the methanol extracts from seventy eight and forty two plants raised in Indonesia and in Vietnam respectively were screened for their anti-lipase activity. Among the plants tested. Hippeastrum puniceum from Indonesia exhibited the highest lipase inhibitory activity. The extract of H. puniceum was partitioned successively with hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol, from which butanol fraction showed relatively high lipase inhibitory activity. From the data based on the physio-chemical analysis, the enzyme-inhibiting compound is considered to be a large molecule with the property of polarity.
