An analysis method is presented for predicting the performance of fan used in power plant or air-conditioning system, and then is applied toactual high and low pressure fans to verify the prediction accuracy ofthe present method. Based on the present method, design sensitivity analysis are conducted to know the influences of fan blade design variables on the on-design point efficiency, and show that the remarkable enhancement can be achieved in the fan efficiency at on-design point through the proper combination of fan blade design variables, Furthermore, four different optimal blade design combinations are derived for the on-design point efficiency maximization from the sensitivity analysis results of high and low pressure fans respectively, and their off-design peformance characteristics are examined with each design combination. The investigation results show that the fan operating with relatively high efficiency over entire off-design operation range tends to result in the shrinking in the operation range due to the reduction of surge margin or the decrease of discharge pressure.
