16세기 프랑스의 제노포비아 －에티엔 돌레와 리옹의 산업을 중심으로－ = Xenophobia in the Sixteenth Century France － The Case of Etienne Dolet and His Publishing Business in Lyon －

국문 초록 (Abstract)

외국인 배제와 혐오를 특징으로 하는 제노포비아는 주로 20세기에 발현된 현상이라 여겨져 왔다. 그러나 ‘우리’와 다른 ‘그들’을 배척하고 이를 통해 공동체의 정체성을 공고화하는 작업은 오랜 역사적 연원을 지니고 있다. 본 논문은 16세기 프랑스에서 발생한 반 이탈리아 정서를 분석 함으로써 제노포비아 현상을 역사적 차원에서 조망해보려는 목적 아래 작성되었다. 16세기 프랑스에서 반 이탈리아 정서는 먼저 지적 차원에서 발생했고 이후 사회경제적 차원으로 확산되었다. 리옹에서 인쇄업에 종사했던 휴머니스트 에티엔 돌레는 16세기 프랑스의 제노포비아가 지닌 두 차원을 종합적으로 관측할 수 있는 적절한 사례이다. 돌레의 저술과 출판물 분석을 통해 제노포비아가 16세기 프랑스에서 초기적 형태의 내셔널 리즘이 발생하는 동기로 작용했음을 고찰하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Xenophobia, which is characterized by the exclusion and hatred of foreigners, has been regarded as a phenomenon that was mainly expressed in the 20th century. However, the otherizing process to consolidate the identity of the community has a long historical background. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the phenomenon of xenophobia from the historical perspective by analyzing the anti-Italian sentiment in France in the sixteenth century. The anti-Italian sentiment in France was first germinated among the intellectual circles and then spread to the socioeconomic dimension. The humanist Etienne Dolet (1509-1546), also an editor-cum-printer in Lyon, is a proper example from whose activities we can comprehensively examine the two dimensions of French xenophobia in the sixteenth century. Through the analysis of his writings and publications, it was considered that xenophobia functioned as an incentive for the early formation of nationalism in France in the sixteenth century.
