Laparoscopic tubal sterilization with fulguration and resection under local or general anesthsia was carried out in 150 patients as an outpatient procedure. This is a pilot work in this field in Korea. One incision and three burn technique suggested by Dr. Wheeless has been applied in this study. The period under study was 12 months. Average age of the client was 34.5 years ; average parity, 3.1. One hundred and thirty-eight cases of the procedures have been done under the general anesthesia ; 12 cases, under the local anesthesia. The operation time averaged 14.8 minutes. More than 95% of women went gome within 6 hours after operation without any considerable complaints. There were 4 minor complications which did not require any intensive medical care. No failure has been recorded within one user of follow-up. The combination of artificial abortion in the first trimester and laparoscopic sterilization has been done in 16 cases without any increase in operation time and postoperative morbidity when compared to laparoscopic sterilization of the nonpregnant women. It is concluded that this procedure can be as simple as vasectomy.
