공공공간으로서의 도시하천공간의 공간특성 및 이용자행태 연구 : 성북천을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

도시의 공공공간은 지역의 정체성을 드러내는 동시에 시민의 일상생활에 많은 영향을 미치며 역사적으로 중요한 역할을 해왔다. 그러나 현대 도시에서의 공공공간은 양적 증가와 그 형태의 다양화에도 불구하고 질적·기능적인 면에서 쇠퇴하고 있다. 한편, 도시 공공공간의 한 유형인 하천공간은 도시의 환경과 생태를 개선하는 동시에 이용자를 위한 어메니티를 제공하는 등 많은 잠재력을 보유하고 있는 것으로 평가받고 있으나, 공공공간으로서의 정체성에 대한 논의와 그 활용 및 관리에 있어서는 소극적인 실정이다.
본 연구는 도시 공공공간의 의미에 대한 논의와 더불어 하천공간이 도시 공공공간으로서 지니는 역할 및 기능을 살펴보고, 시민들의 공공공간으로서 존재하는 도시 하천공간의 효과적인 이용과 관리에 있어서의 시사점을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
이를 위하여 서울시 성북천의 성북구 관할 구간 2.6km를 대상으로 하천공간이 공공공간으로서 지니는 공간 특성 및 이용자의 행태를 직접관찰법을 통하여 조사하고 공간 특성과 이용자 행태 사이의 관계를 분석하였다.
연구결과, 하천공간의 이용자 수는 공간으로의 접근성 보다는 주변의 토지이용 특성에 많은 영향을 받고, 운동기구와 벤치 등 이용시설의 이용률은 시설의 수가 아닌 시설의 배치 형태에 큰 영향을 받으며, 하천의 환경·생태 특성을 활용하는 이용자의 행위는 공간의 환경·생태적 양호함 보다는 다양한 행위를 유발하는 넓은 공간의 존재 여부에 영향을 받는다는 등의 의미 있는 발견을 하였다.

The urban public space has played an important role in the history of the city, while also affecting the daily life of the citizens. However, public spaces in modern cities are declining in both qualitative and functional terms despite the quantitative increase and diversification of its forms. On the other hand, the urban stream space, which is a type of urban public space, is considered to have many potential such as improving the environment and ecology of the city and providing amenity for users. However, the debate on its identity as a public space and its utilization and management are still passive.
The purpose of this study is to examine the role and function of stream space as a public space in the city along with the discussion on the meaning of urban public space and to draw implications for effective use and management of urban stream space.
For this purpose, the spatial characteristics of the stream space as a public space and the behavior of the users were investigated through a direct observation and the relationship between spatial characteristics and user behavior was analyzed for the 2.6km region of Seongbukcheon, Seoul.
As a result, it was found that the number of users depends more on the land use characteristics than the accessability to the space, and the utilization rate of exercise facilities and benches is more dependent on the arrangement type than the number of facilities, in addition, it was found that the user's behavior that utilizes the environmental factors of the stream depends on the existence of wide squares that cause various actions rather than the environmental and ecological conditions of the space.
