우울한 성인을 위한 자기조력독서치료의 효과 = The Effect of Self-help Bibliotherapy on Depressed Adults

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 최소접촉 자기조력독서치료가 성인의 우울증을 개선하는 데 효과가 있는지 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 최소접촉 자기조력독서치료란 문제의 진단이나 독서제안을 하는 목적 외에는 치료자가 내담자와 접촉하지 않는 조건에서 자기조력도서를 사용하여 내담자 스스로 정신건강을 증진시키는 접근방법을 말한다. 자기조력독서치료의 성패를 결정하는 요소는 자기조력도서이기 때문에 최소접촉 자기조력독서치료의 효과는 자기조력도서의 효과로도 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 인지행동치료이론에 기초하여 쓰여진, 우울증을 위한 한 권의 자기조력도서의 한국어번역판을 가지고 최소접촉조건에서 자기조력독서치료를 한 사람들의 우울감이 개선되는지를 알아보았다. 실험집단과 통제집단을 포함하여 88명 피험자들이 참가하였으며, 실험기간은 한 달, 종속변인은 BDI검사점수로 하였다. 사전사후 BDI 검사 차이를 분석한 결과, 실험집단 피험자들은 치료지연 통제집단 피험자들에 비해 통계적으로 유의한 우울감 감소를 보였고, 임상적으로도 유의한 우울감 개선효과가 있었다. 이러한 결과는 우울증 치료에 자기조력독서치료가 효과가 있음을 입증한 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was conducted to test the effect of self-help bibliotherapy on depression. Minimum-contact self-help bibliotherapy means that the client goes through psychotherapy by himself without contact with the therapist except the purpose of diagnosis or suggestion of reading. As the most important element of self-help bibliotherapy is self-help book, the effect of minimum-contact self-help bibliotherapy can be identified with the effect of the self-help book. The researcher examined the improvement of depression of adults who had read a book on the basis of cognitive-behavioral therapy of depression written in English and translated in Korean. 88 adults participated in this study for a month or more, and the test tool was BDI. The analysis of the difference between the pre-score and the post-score showed that there was statistically significant difference of the change of depression score between the experimental group and the control group. The participants of the experimental group showed the better improvement of depression in comparison with those of the control group. And the participants showed clinically significant improvement, too. This result means self-help bibliotherapy is an inexpensive, effective approach for the treatment of depression.
