초현실주의 표현기법과 오브제의 표현 특성을 통한 마르텐 바스의 아트퍼니처 분석 = Analysis of Maarten Baas's Art Furniture through Surrealist Expression Techniques and Expression Characteristics of Objects

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of modern art furniture through the expression method of surrealism and the process of objects and to prepare a creative design methodology. The scope of research was limited to Surrealism and Maarten Baas(1978~) representative Smoke, Clay, and Real Time series works. The method of this study is as follows.
After a theoretical study of surrealism in Chapter 2, it is classified into four(combinability, contingency, fantasy, and ambiguity) focusing on the characteristics that have appeared.
Subsequently, The Characteristics of Surrealist Objects were divided into surface and inner, and reconstructed into four(single-combination object, static-dynamic object) based on surface characteristics and three(conscious, preconscious, and unconscious object)based on inner characteristics. In Chapter 3, the concept of art furniture is summarized, and Bass's works are analyzed focusing on the expression technique and the expression characteristics of objects. The analysis results are summarized as follows. First, the expression techniques of Surrealism and the expressive characteristics of objects are still used today, so it is important to study and apply the Surrealism methodology. Second, surrealist artists produced objects to emphasize the free expression that comes from the inner world of man by turning their attention focused only on dexterity and physical activity to an intellectual basis in the art creation process. Conversely, nowadays, where the importance of concepts has increased, art furniture made by hand has also been in the spotlight. Third, among the object expression characteristics of surrealism, dynamic objects seemed to have been expanded to media art as a single object as it entered the modern era. In conclusion, the modern society is at a time when the artistic expression of furniture and the necessity of art furniture are sufficiently desired. Studying art furniture through the specific expressive characteristics of surrealism and applying it to new sculptures will contribute to finding newer and more valuable methodologies for modern designers.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 초현실주의의 표현 방식과 오브제의 프로세스를 통하여 현대 아트퍼니처의 특성을분석하고 창의적인 디자인 방법론을 마련하는 것이다. 연구 범위는 초현실주의 시대와 마르텐바스(Maarten Baas, 1978~)의 대표적인 Smoke, Clay, Real time 각각의 시리즈 작품으로 한정하였다.
본 연구의 방법은 다음과 같다. 2장에서 초현실주의의 이론적 고찰을 진행한 뒤, 나타난 특징을 중심으로 4가지 키워드(결합성, 우연성, 환상성, 모호성)로 분류한다. 이후 초현실주의 오브제의 특성을표면적, 내면적으로 나누고, 표면적 특성을 바탕으로 4가지(단일-결합 오브제, 정적-동적 오브제), 내면적 특성을 바탕으로 3가지(의식적, 전의식적, 무의식적 오브제)로 재구성하였다. 3장에서는 아트퍼니처의 개념을 살펴본 뒤, 도출된 기법과 오브제 표현특성을 중심으로 마르텐바스의 작품을 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초현실주의의 표현기법과 오브제의 표현특성은 현재에도 여전히 사용되고 있어 초현실주의의 방법론을 연구하고 적용하는 것이 중요함을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 초현실주의 작가들은 미술창작과정에서 오직 손재주와 신체 활동에만 집중하던 그들의 관심을지적인 기반으로 전환함으로써 인간의 내면에서 오는 자유로운 표현을 중시하고자 오브제를 제작하였지만, 개념의 비중이 커진 현대에는 손으로 제작하는 아트퍼니처도 각광받고 있었다. 셋째, 초현실주의의 오브제 표현 특성 중 동적인 오브제는 현대에 들어서면서 미디어 아트까지 하나의 오브제로 확대 된 것으로 보였다. 결론적으로, 가구의 예술적인 표현과 아트퍼니처의 필요성을 충분히 야기하는시대로 변화하는 시점에서, 제공된 구체적인 표현특성을 통하여 아트퍼니처를 바라보고 새로운 공간과조형에 적용하는 것은 현대의 디자이너들에게 더 깊이 있는 방법론을 찾을 수 있도록 기여 할 것이다.
