Various uniform iron powder was prepared from Fe salts of Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2, FeSO4, and FeCl2 under microwave irradiation with urea, respectively. We observed pH drift of the ferrous salts during precipitation. Composition and microstructures of the iron oxide powder are investigated using X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and transmission electron microscope(TEM), Precipitation mechanism in Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 and FeSO4 was identical due to the same SO4 anion, XRD revealed Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 saltled α -FeOOH, FeSO4 Salts induced 3 Mixture Of α -FeOOH and γ -Fe2O3, and FeCl2 produces a mixture of FeSO4, α-FeOOH End α-Fe2O3, respectively. α-FeOOH Powders from Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 and FeSO4show acicular shape with length of 0.2㎛ and 1:10 aspect ratio, which is appropriate for high density magnetic recording material.
