윌리엄 셰익스피어의『리어왕』에 나타나는 교육적 가치 = Educational Value Presented in King Lear By William Shakespeare

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 윌리엄 셰익스피어의 『리어왕』에 나타나는 교육적 가치를 재조명하는 것이다. 연구자는 윤리적 관점, 교육적 가치, 그리고 토의적 가치에 초점을 두었다. 첫째, 리어왕 가족과 주위에 있는 인물들에 초점을 두고 그들의 도덕적 수준과 그들이 인식하는 도덕적 가치에 대하여 살펴보았다. 특히 리어왕의 어리석음과 잘못된 결정에 대해 충고하는 윤리 교사의 역할을 맡은 광대는 대사를 통해 살펴보았다. 둘째, 토의적 가치를 살펴보았다. 이 가치는 학생들로 하여금 이 작품 속에 나오는 이슈를 토의 주제로서 생각하게 하고 더 나아가 이 이슈를 해결할 수 있는 방법을 모색하게 한다. 엘리자베스 시대의 작품 중 하나인 『리어왕』을 재조명한 이유는 이 작품이 자식의 의무, 외양과 실제의 차이, 리더십의 덕목, 도덕적 부패, 사회적 무질서, 그리고 윤리적 부패와 같은 현대 사회가 직면한 문제들을 다루고 있기 때문이다. 이와 같은 작품은 다른 시대임에도 불구하고 모든 사람들
에게 감동을 주는 보편적 문제들을 다루어서 교육적 가치와 문화적 가치를 가지고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this research is to re-examine the educational value in Shakespeare’s King Lear. I focused on an ethical perspective, the educational value, and the value of discussion. First, centered on King Lear’s family and the characters surrounding him, their moral level is observed and how they perceive moral value from an ethical perspective. In particular, the role of the clown, who takes on a role of an ethical teacher by providing advice on King Lear’s foolishness and wrong decisions, is observed focusing on the dialogues. Second, the value of discussion is observed. This value is to enable the students to think about the issues in this work as a topic of discussion, and furthermore, find ways to resolve the issues. The reason for re-examining one of the works during the British Elizabethan era, King Lear, is because the work deals with challenges faced by the current society such as social issues, filial duty, difference between outward appearance and reality, virtues of a leader, moral decay, anomy, and ethical corruption. As such, this work has educational value and cultural values by dealing with universal problems that touch everyone despite the different times.
