This study employs the categorical perception paradigm to examine the auditory boundaries and boundary characteristics of the word-initial stops / p/ and /pʰ/ in Standard Mongolian. The results indicate that the perception of /pʰ/ and /p/ in Standard Mongolian is categorical, as demonstrated by three key findings. First, well-defined auditory boundaries were consistently observed across all experimental conditions. Second, discrimination curves exhibited corresponding peaks, indicating heightened sensitivity at category boundaries. Third, the positions of auditory boundaries closely aligned with discrimination peak locations.
