Purpose of this study is to focus on experience of mothers of disabled children through art therapy and on the meaning of the experience and then, to make image of emotions suppressed within their inner side in visualized works of art in order to more deeply understand their world. To this end, it intends to understand the meaning and essence of various experiences through art therapy of mothers of disabled children by a narrative inquiry way focusing on human experience for recomposition and to provide overall understanding materials to mothers of disabled children in order to help active interaction with the mothers in treatment of disabled children.
The objects of this research were 3 mothers of disabled children who went to the ○○ Children Development Center in M city for treatment. Period of data collection was about 4 months from July to October 2016 and the main method of data collection was implementation of art therapy program for 13 times and in-depth interviews. The process was recording of participants' works and interviews, collection and interpretation of such data as field diaries of the researcher. The experiences in art therapy by mothers of disabled children through this process are as follows;
Stories of A's art therapy experience were <I thought it had nothing to do with me>, <Everything is regrettable>, <I thought walking would solve everything>, <I am worried about future of this and that>, <Disabled child is burdensome>, <First-born child weighs on my mind due to younger disabled brother>, <My power, my family>, and <I dreamed a comfortable life>. Stories of A's art therapy experience were <A bolt out of the blue>, <Why only do I have to live like this>, <Even though eyes on disabled children become better>, <To send disabled child to a special school at last>, <You are my destiny>, <I thought it would be all right>, <I do not deserve him>, and <Investment for me> while stories of A's art therapy experience were <How do I bring up my child?>, <Has the God abandoned me?>, <Arrows to me>, <Painful fingers>, <Fear not to know when it comes>, <Baby, don't worry anything>, <I dreamed a trip with my family>, and <I will reach maturity as much as I am painful>.
The meanings of art therapy experience of disabled children's mothers were as follows. First, art therapy class is time for me only. Second, I express and accept my emotions through works of art. Third, I find importance of family members who share human feelings in my life. Fourth, I discover myself forgotten for a while and dream my future.
According to above narrative inquiry, implications of art therapy experience of disabled children's mothers were as follows. First, participants in the research had a process of revealing their own life through experience in works of art. Second, eyes concentrated only on disabled children moved onto other family members causing them to find out meaning of family. Third, they attempted positive separation of their living from the one closely tied to disabled children.
