Problem solving is performed in combination with cognitive and affective characteristics. Perceived self-efficacy refer to beliefs in one's capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to produce given attainments, this factor mediates between intellect and emotion. Especially biology self-efficacy is a situational or problem-specific assesment of an individual's confidence in his ability to successfully perform of accomplish a particular task or problem, therefore it can affect biological problem solving.
The aim of this study is to understand the relationship between biology self-efficacy(BSE) and biological problem solving.
For the purpose of this study, what follows are research problems
1. Is there any relationship between BSE and problem solving?
2. Is there any differences with BSE according to the student's gender?
3. How is the student's bias between BSE and problem solving?
Participants consisted of 90 eleventh grade students(43 boys and 47 girls). The results are as follows.
First, it was demonstrated BSE has a strong and positive relationship with problem solving performance(p<.05). The students with high self-efficacy really performed well. But the bias between BSE and problem solving had the negative relationship(p<.05). It showed the students with high problem solving performance had under-confidence in their ability.
Second, the female students had higher BSE than the male one(p<.05).
Third, it was demonstrated the female students had under confidence in their ability than male one(p<.05), and the group with high problem solving performance had under-confidence than the group with low one(p<.05).
