The Buddhist temples and the statues in Korea were, for the most part, rebuilt and recreated from the 17th to the 18th century because the greater part of them were destroyed by the Japanese invaders in the period of the Japanese Invasion to Korea from 1592 to 1598. Thousands of the sculptors, who were monks, worked for creating the sculptures and they formed groups and schools. In general, each school was formed with limited numbers of sculptors and a specific region. The statues were made by each school`s own members. During the first half of the 17th century, lots of competent monk-sculptors became noticeable. The masters in each schools led all their members with the unique style of the sculptures. There were 7-8 major schools in the 17th century and the Muyeom school is in them. Muyeom school was led by Muyeom in the early 17th century and Haesim in the mid 17th century. They produced many works more actively than any other schools for the period of the 1630s to the 1650s in Jeolla province. Muyeom, the founder of the school, presented the cubic effect very well on the expression of clothes` lines and the voluminous effect on the expression of faces and bodies. Haesim, the worthy successor of the school, stressed the symmetrical effect on the draperies of the clothes and the stability of the statues.
