Moves for the formation of mega free trade agreements have become intensified in the Asia- Pacific region since around 2005 with the United States and China apparently in duel over the trade hegemony in the most economically dynamic region in the world. An accord was reached on the TPP in October 2015 and the signing of the pact took place in February the following year. But the victory of Trump, who opposes the TPP, in the U.S. presidential election, has changed the landscape of mega regional FTAs in the Asia-Pacific.
