택견에 내재된 철학적 의미 탐색 = Exploring the Philosophical Meaning Inherent in Taekkyon

This study aims to interpret the philosophical meaning inherent in Taekkyeon, a traditional martial art, by examining its cultural significance as a representative product of our people. There are divided opinions regarding its legitimacy, which adds more weight to its significance. Throughout the development and transmission process of Taekkyeon to the present, it has undergone a process of reinterpreting the established philosophical meaning by comparing it with the historical nature of the Korean people. Through an exploration of the educational and philosophical meaning, as well as the Arete of Taekkyeon during its transmission, we discovered an overlooked philosophical aspect of the martial art. From the lens of educational philosophy, Taekkyeon does not cling to formalized and fixed movements, but applies and utilizes what is learned according to his individual characteristics, displaying excellent autonomy of form. In addition, one must pursue fast movements, while harmonizing speed and slowness. Finally, Taekkyeon’s distinguishing feature is within its ability to cultivate excellence of technique and personal excellence, differentiating its philosophical meaning from other sports and martial arts.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 전통 무예인 택견에 내재된 철학적 의미를 고찰하여 그것을 해석하는 데 목적이 있다. 택견은 우리 민족을 대표할 수 있는 문화적 산물 중 하나이다. 현재에는 그 정통성에 대해 의견이 분분하지만, 그러한 상황도 의미가 있다고 할 수 있다. 택견의 발전 및 전승과정에서부터 현재에 이르기까지 많은 변화를 거듭하며 정립된 철학적 의미를 우리 민족의 역사성과 비교하면서 재해석하는 과정을 거치게 되었다. 전승 과정에서 나타나는 교육철학적 의미와 택견의 아레테에 대해 구체적으로 논의하면서 지금까지 주목받지 못했던 택견의 새로운 철학적 면모를 찾아볼 수 있었다. 교육철학적 의미로 택견은 정형화되고 고착화된 동작에 연연하지 않고 배운 것을 자신의 특성에 맞게 적용하여 활용하여 그 형태의 자율성이 우수하다는 것이다. 또한 빠른 동작만을 추구하는 것이 아니라 느림을 강조하면서 빠름과 조화를 이루는 것에 초점이 맞추어져 있다. 마지막으로 기술로서의 탁월성뿐만 아니라 인성적 탁월성까지 함양할 수 있는 특성이 있기에 다른 종목이나 무예와는 차별화된 철학적 의미를 찾아볼 수 있다.
