The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the search for a new concept direction of domestic contests through the analysis of major overseas textile design contests and award-winning works. This study examined the current status of domestic textile design contests and derived the following problems. Firstly, the lack of a circular network that connects to the industry through the award of the contest, Secondly, there are various textile design fields, but the contest is mainly limited to the ‘print and surface pattern’ field. Thirdly, textile companies lack competitions to create new ideas, Fourthly, it is somewhat passive in reflecting trends. Major global textile design contests held by setting specific goals and directions of the competition could be classified into three types, and a total of six competitions were selected and analyzed. Firstly, ‘New Designers Awards’ and ‘Global Design Graduate Show’ whose main purpose is to provide students with opportunities to connect to the industry, were creating practical opportunities to enter the industry by presenting students' works and portfolios to numerous sponsors, practitioners and head hunters in various fields. Secondly, ‘Loro Piana Knit Design Award’ and ‘Dupont Tyvek Design Award’ were able to create new ideas and promote companies and materials by utilizing the main materials in companies that develop and produce textile materials. Thirdly, ‘Global Change Award' and 'Woolmark Prize’ pursuing 'sustainability' sought to find ideas to realize this at various stages of the fashion and textile industry. It is hoped that domestic textile design contests will be diverse in the future, and that they will be able to play a role as a more advanced contest by presenting specific goals and directions.
