The purpose of this study is to draw the research effects such as cultural
consumer development, enterprise art sponsorship, corporate image enhancement
and local culture promotion with cultural art space operation. Incheon Paradise City
Hotel is selected as a research target. The research method was to study cases of
domestic and oversea complex resort and hotel status analysis.
A complex resort refers to the space equipped with various facilities and
functions such as casino, shopping mall, and large conference room of hotel with
accommodation functions. The complex resort is currently in the third
generation. It has facilities such as shopping mall, F&B facilities,
conventions, theme parks, art galleries and museums, and leisure as well
as casinos and hotels.
The first generation complex resort focused on foreign tourists by operating hotel
and casino together while the second generation complex resort combined tour and
leisure facilities such as ski resort and golf course as well as casinos and
hotels. Since the complex resorts from 1st to 3rd generation have a strong
negative perception of casino-based gambling industry, image improvement
was necessary, and in order to obtain permission for casino business in
the area, friction with the region should be minimized through facilities and
social contribution activities that can contribute to the public or the
region.
People's interest on arts and entertainment has grown according to increased
leisure time and tour trend. Foreign tourists with increased tour experience has
changed from country to city. Therefore, interest on unique tour contents is
demanding. even though the revitalization of local economy and promotion
from local culture has been invigorated by the government, relevant public
enterprise are also changing accordingly as interest in cultural and artistic
activities by private companies is increasing due to the lack of public
funds. Recently, the "Casino CSR Consultative Body" was launched to
promote social contribution activities through cooperation between
state-run casinos and private casino companies.
The press released by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(2015) announced
that complex resort should include various facilities such as hotel, MICE, cultural
art facility and casino, in particularly it needs to include cultural and artistic
facilities as a essential facility. Accordingly the complex resort and hotel provide
culture and art sponsorship by operating museum, art gallery and art space as a
entertainment facility, and utilize this facility as a space for art marketing and local
culture promotion. In review of this case promoting local culture and
developing customer demand leads to mecenat effect which enhances
corporate image, due to culture and art sponsorship in the complex resort.
Incheon Paradise Hotel, a research target of this study, opened various
entertainment facilities including Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Art Paradiso, Gallery
Paradise Art Space, Club Chroma and Plaza in the area of approximately
100 thousand floor space in Yeongjong-do in April 2017.
It is accessible within 5 minutes from Incheon International Airport by
magnetic levitation train and reached within 2 hours from major cities in
Northeast Asia such as Shanghai, Tokyo and Beijing. However, compared to
the accessibility from the airport, it was not easy to access from nearby
cities including Seoul, there fore Paradise Hotel is launching family resort
development project pursuing 'Northeast best ARTtainment complex resort'
where culture and art is alive and breathing'. Operating MICE facilities,
entertainment, and culture and art project, and the art space of Incheon
Paradise Hotel plays a role of culture and art enjoyment and promotion by
Incheon citizen at the Incheon Museum of Art scheduled to open in 2022.
That's why Art Space of Incheon Paradise Hotel is selected because of its
role.
The effects of the operation of the art space in the complex resort &
hotel were examined through domestic and oversea case analysis on the
effects and necessity of the operation of the art space. As a result, the
effect and promoting measures of art space operation in Incheon Paradise
Hotel are suggested as follows.
First, it can be developed into a culture and tourism by utilizing the
operation of the art space, and the effect of developing customers for
cultural consumers can be obtained. Through the art space operated by
the complex resort, domestic and oversea tourists can enjoy not only tour
but also culture and art, so we can expect the possibility that they can
turn into cultural consumers and revisit in the future.
Second, we can obtain the effects of culture and arts sponsorship,
enhancing corporate image, and promoting local culture by operating the
art space and conducting a corporate mecenat.
Third, companies are influencing various problems in society by its
nature of profit seeking, and casino-based complex resorts may have
negative image due to it’s business based on gambling industry, so it is
necessary to improve corporate image changed from the negative image.
The social contribution such as culture and art education program will
effect corperate image positively and showing the ideal goal of complex
resort.
Fourth, since the city art museum is not opened in Incheon, the art
space of Incheon Paradise Hotel can solve the cultural gap between
regions, and improve the life quality of local residents, and solve the
cultural diversity by the influx of tourists from various countries.
