      Propranolol·Ethyl cellulose(PPh-EC) Microcapsules were prepared by the solvent evaporation method in liquid paraffin/acetone system using sorbitan tristearate as a dispersing agent.
      The PPH-EC microcapsules containing propranolol·HCI of 19.7, 32.4, 47.7, 64.7, 81.7 and 88.0% were obtained.
      It was shown that the PPH-EC microcapsules were almost spherical by SEM.
      The dissolution rate of propranolol·HCI from the PPH-EC microcapsules were retarded considerably compared with that of propranolol·HCI powder dissolved within 3 minutes completely in pH 1.2 dissolution medium.
      The amounts of propranolol·HCI of 19.7, 32.4, 47.7 and 64.7% were 18.98, 26.38, 87.53 and 100.01% at 4hr, respectively.
      But, the amounts of propranolol·HCI released from PPH-EC microcapsules containing propranolol·HCI of 81.7, and 88.0% were about 100% at 10 and 30 min, respectively.
      And, the dissolution profiles were not affected by the concentration of sorbitan tristearate in microencapsulation process.
