백제 사씨(沙氏) 세력의 부상과 세력 기반 = Emergence and Power Base of the Sah Clan in Baekje

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 사씨 세력이 사비기 백제의 최고 귀족 세력으로 정치적 위상을 누릴 수 있었던 원동력은 그들의 재지기반과 관련이 있음을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 살펴보기 위하여 고고자료와 문헌자료 및 당대 문자자료를 살펴보았다. 이로써 그들이 중앙 정치에 등장한 배경과 웅진·사비 천도 후 최고 귀족 세력이 될 수 있었던 요인은 세력기반으로써 금강하구 일대를 관리·포섭하였기에 가능했음을 알 수 있었다.
금강하구 일대는 한성기에도 해양 교통로를 활용한 지방 거점세력이 존재하고 있었다. 아신왕 7년(397)에 대고구려전을 위해 등장한 지방 세력인 좌장 사두는 사씨 세력의 재지기반 성격을 보여준다. 천도 후 금강하구 일대는 도성의 관문으로 격상되면서 중앙의 직접 관리가 필요했고, 사씨 세력의 활동은 한층 부각되고 있음이 확인된다.
입점리 고분군을 통해서도 금강하구 일대가 일찍부터 전략적 요충지로써 백제 중앙의 관심이 높은 지역이었음을 알 수 있다. 이는 사비기 지방통치체제 편제에도 반영된다. 금강하구 남단은 屎山郡 아래 3개의 현이 설치되어 관리되었으며, 군산-익산 일대의 유적 배치 또한 이와 맥락을 같이한다.
사씨 세력은 도성의 관문인 금강하구를 활용해 중국·일본과의 교류에 유리한 입지에 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 선진문물과 물자를 효율적으로 관리하면서 백제의 주도층이 된 것이다. 이러한 인적·물적 네트워크를 지닌 사씨 세력은 백제 멸망 후 유민의 활동을 통해서도 존망 받는 인물을 배출할 수 있는 저력을 지녔던 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study would reveal that the Sah clan could enjoy political standing as a power group of supreme nobles in Baekje during the Sabi period because of the driving force related to their regional base. To examine this, this study investigated archaeological data, literature data, and written materials of the time. By this, it was found that the background factor of their emergence in the central politics and the driving force by which they could become well known as a power group of supreme nobles after the transfer of capital city to Ungjin and Sabi included their management and inclusion of the whole area of Geum River estuary.
In the whole area of the Geum River estuary, also in the Hanseong period, there were local strongholds on the marine traffic routes. In Year 7 of King Asin’s reign (397), the emergence of General Sah, Du, local power for the war against Goguryeo shows the character of the Sah clan as the regional base. After the transfer of capital, as the whole area of Geum River estuary was upgraded to a gateway to the capital city, it needed direct management from the center, and thus, it is found that the Sah clan’s activities were brought into relief further.
Through the ancient tombs in Ipjeom-ri, it is also found that the whole area of Geum River estuary had long been an area in which the center of Baekje had been interested much as a strategic location, which is also reflected in the organization of the local governance system during the Sabi period. In the southern extremity of the Geum River estuary, three prefectures were set under Sisan-gun and managed as one jurisdictional boundary, and the distribution of remains in the whole area of Gunsan-Iksan is in the same context.
Like this, the Sah clan grows up effectively managing advanced cultures and commodities in addition to exchanges with China and Japan through the Geum RiverEstuary, the gateway to the capital city. The Sah clan that had such human and physical networks had the potential that could produce admired figures through the activities of the migrants after the fall of Baekje.
