In order to clarify the ecological characteristics of the freshwater zooplankton community, the present study were carried out during the period from March to October 1987 in Lake Kwangju. 1. Throughout the investigation period, zooplankton community were indentified and classified as total twenty-one species. Of these, Protozoa representing 4 genera and 5 species, Rotifera representing 6 genera and 7 species, Cladocera representing 5 genera and 6 species, Copepoda representing 3 genera and 3 species. 2. Monthly distribution of the zooplankton community appeared as follows: Protozoa; Ceratiutn hz'rudinella from May to October, Eudori"na elegans in July and August, Dzfflugia corona from July to October, D. urceolata from August to October, Tintinnidium cylindrata in May and June. Rotifera; Polyarthra trigla, Asplanchna priodonta, Keratella cochlearis from May to October respectively, Trichocerca longiseta and Keratella valga from June to October, Brachionus calyciflorus in May and June, Filinial ongiseta in June and July. Cladocera; Diaphanosoma brachyurum in August and September, Scapholeberis mucronata from May to September, Bosminal ongirostris from March to October, Alona guttata in April and May, Chydorus sphaericus from March to June. Copepoda; Cyclops vicinus from March to June and September & October, Mesocyclops leuckarti from April to October, Canthocamptus staphylinus in April and May, and nauplius of copepoda were distributed throughout the investigation period continuously. 3. Throughout the investigation period, biomass of zooplankton community were as follows. Protozoa ranged from 57 to 7,473 indiv./m', Rotifera ranged from 57 to 6,341 indiv. / m', Cladocera ranged from 57 to' 1, 302 indiv. / m', Copepoda ranged from 57 to 849 indiv. / m'.
