For multinational enterprises, knowledge has been considered as a most critical organizational resource for a sustainable competitive advantage, and a subsidiary plays a important role in acquiring knowledge at various countries. The knowledge acquisition of a subsidiary may occur in different directions among HQs, subsidiaries, and peer subsidiaries across geographical borders. The purpose of this study is to explore what directions of knowledge acquisition are more effective in enhancing team performance in the subsidiary with taking into consideration of team functions. Using a survey of South Korean MNEs, I find that knowledge acquisition from the corporate HQ contributes to increasing manufacturing team performance. Against to expectation, on the other hand, knowledge acquisition from peer subsidiaries enhance tsales team performance.
