The third phase of autonomous vehicle system defined by NHTSA run autonomously only for a limited time in certain running conditions. In such cases, they require the intervention of a driver to transit into the driver’s driving mode. In related to this situation, this study examines the effective information provision method for a driver to recognize, judge and operate when the driving control is transferred between a vehicle and a driver in the simulation environment. As for the evaluation, usability interview was conducted, examining how the emotion of the driver is related to the visual and auditory feedback provided by the autonomous vehicle. As a result, it has been found out that the drivers, who tend to experience uncertainty during the transition, feel more relieved when auditory feedback is provided. Hereupon, this study is significant because it allows the actual autonomous vehicle developers to develop more secure, stable and convenient interface before it actually commercialized in the market.
