칼빈의 해석은 영원한 진리?: 여성 본문에 대한 칼빈구약주석 연구 = Is Calvin's interpretation eternal truth?: Research of Calvin old testament comment about Women’s text

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article aims to reveal how Calvin interpreted the so-called female texts found in the Old Testament from a hermeneutic perspective. Its primary purpose is to see if Calvin’s hermeneutic view is still applicable to the present churches. For this I examined all the so-called female texts included Calvin’s Old Testament commentaries. Based on such examination, I found Calvin’s eight principles of interpreting the so-called female texts as follows. 1. Men and women were created in the same image of God. 2. Women were created as assistants of men. 3. Both Adam and Eve are responsible for the original sin 4. Monogamy is a biblical principle. 5. Lies as thoroughly sinful. 6. Calvin’s male-centered, patriarchal position. 7. A interpretation in terms of male supremacist. 8. Calvin’s non-recognition on women's public leadership. In sum Calvin's interpretation of the so-called female texts in OT was doubtlessly to be a step forward in the human rights and equality of women than his own contemporaries’ ones. Calvin well acknowledged that women have the same image of God as men do and that they have the equality relationship with men. Nevertheless he interpreted still from some male-centered and patriarchal point-views and in terms of the male-superiority, reflecting typical thoughts on women of his own age. From this it is concluded that it is not appropriate to apply his interpretation to the modern church as it was. That is to say, Calvin's interpretation of the so-called female texts in OT and his understanding of women should not be regarded to be timeless. Instead, Calvin’s interpretation is also be interpreted in the light of Bible itself. Thus it is not reasonable to limit the women's equality or limit women's leadership based on Calvin’s interpretation of Bible.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 칼빈이 구약의 여성 본문들을 어떤 해석학적 관점을 가지고 해석했는지 밝히고 그 해석학적 관점이 현재 교회에 여전히 적용 가능한 것인지 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 그러기 위해 칼빈의 구약 주석에서 여성 인물들과 여성에 관련된 본문의 모든 해석을 살폈다. 이런 연구를 통해 칼빈이 여성 본문들을 해석하는 원칙을 다음과 같이 여덟 개로 정리하였다. 1. 남성과 여성은 동일한 하나님의 형상으로 창조되었다. 2. 여성은 남성의 보조자로 창조되었다. 3. 아담과 하와 모두 원죄에 대한 책임이 있다. 4. 일부일처제가 성경적 원리이다. 5. 거짓말을 철저하게 죄로 여긴다. 6. 남성 중심적, 가부장적 입장에서 해석한다. 7. 남성 우월주의적 해석을 한다. 8. 여성의 공적 리더십을 인정하지 않는다. 결론적으로 칼빈의 구약의 여성들에 대한 해석은 그 당시의 견해보단 여성의 인권과 평등성의 문제에 있어서 진일보한 부분이 발견되었다. 여성도 남성과 동일하게 하나님의 형상을 가지고 있다는 것과 부부는 평등한 관계를 가지고 있다는 것을 인정 하였다. 하지만 여전히 그 시대의 여성관을 그대로 반영한 남성중심적이고 가부장적이며 남성 우월주의적 해석을 하고 있다는 것을 발견하였다. 이것을 통해 칼빈의 해석은 시대를 초월한 해석이 아닌 그가 살았던 시대의 여성관을 반영하고 있기 때문에 현대 교회에 그대로 적용하는 것은 적절하지 않다는 결론을 내리게 되었다. 그러므로 칼빈의 여성에 대한 해석을 시간을 초월한 영구불변의 진리로 보면 안되며 또한 이를 근거로 여성의 평등성을 제한하거나 여성 리더십을 제한하는 것은 정당하지 않다.
