The purpose of this article is to show how the understanding of embryonic stem cell research by Korean Christianity and Buddhism has come to be appear so different within the whole bioethics discourses. Especially, this article inquires into the structures of religious justification in Korean religions regarding embryonic cloning and stem cell research. Firstly, I will show the bioethics discourses on embryonic stem cell research in Korean Christianity and Buddhism. Secondly, I will analyze religious justifications of embryonic stem cell research in the case of Korean religions on the base of “structure of practical justification of religious ethics” suggested by David Little and Sumner B. Twiss.
