비서의 비언어커뮤니케이션에 대한 질적 연구 = A Qualitative Study on the Non-verbal Communication of Executive Assistants

국문 초록 (Abstract)

다른 직무와는 다르게 비서는 업무의 범위가 명확하게 규정되어 있지 않고 조직과 상사의 성격에 따라 업무가 가변적이기 때문에 정형화된 커뮤니케이션만으로는 업무를 진행하기 어렵다. 비서학 분야에서 커뮤니케이션의 중요성이 강조되어 왔으나 관련 연구는 매우 부족하며, 특히 비언어커뮤니케이션에 관한 연구는 이루어진 바가 없다. 본 연구는 비서가 업무상 상대방의 비언어커뮤니케이션을 통하여 무엇을 파악하는지, 비서의 비언어커뮤니케이션을 통하여 상대방에게는 무엇이 표현되고 있다고 생각하는지를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
비서 20명을 대상으로 비언어커뮤니케이션 경험에 대한 중요사건중심 인터뷰를 실시하고, 인터뷰 응답내용을 전사하여 내용 분석하였다. 비서의 커뮤니케이션 대상은 임원, 사내동료, 타 회사 비서, 내방객 순으로 나타났다. 비서는 상대방의 신체언어, 유사언어, 신체적 외양에 포함되는 여러 하위요인을 통해 상대의 기분, 상태 등을 파악하고 있었다. 또한 임원, 사내동료, 타 회사비서, 내방객들 역시 비서의 신체언어, 유사언어, 신체적 외양 등의 비언어커뮤니케이션을 통해 비서에 대한 이미지를 형성하며 비서의 업무처리능력을 파악한다고 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
본 연구를 통하여 비서가 상대방의 비언어커뮤니케이션으로 무엇을 파악하고 자신의 비언어커뮤니케이션을 통하여 무엇이 표현되고 있다고 생각하는지 파악해봄으로써 비서관점에서 비언어커뮤니케이션에 대한 좀 더 체계적이고 상세한 정보를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 비서의 비언어커뮤니케이션을 체계적으로 분석해 본 기초연구로서 의미가 있으며, 본 연구 결과가 비서직을 희망하는 학생들 또는 신입비서를 대상으로 하는 교육 자료로 비서에게 필요한 비언어커뮤니케이션에 대한 구체적인 정보를 제공하기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Unlike other employment, the work that secretaries perform requires more than linguistic communication due to the fact that secretaries’ scope of the work is sometimes not clearly defined and their work varies considerably depending on the nature of the boss and the organization. Despite that the importance of communication has been emphasized in the field of secretarial science, there has been little research done on communication and surprisingly none at all on nonverbal communication. The purpose of this study was to identify the non-verbal communication of secretaries with focusing on body language, physical appearance and the paralanguage required for secretaries.
Using the critical incident technique, 20 secretaries were interviewed to discover their nonverbal communication experience, with focusing on other nonverbals that they needed to identify, and those nonverbals, they believe were expressed by secretaries to other people involved in the company. The secretaries’ communication targets were divided into executives, colleagues, secretaries of other companies and visitors. The secretary was aware of the others" mood and condition through the others" body language, paralanguage and physical appearance. In addition, secretaries believed that executives, colleagues, secretaries of other companies, and visitors were assessing secretaries" image and work performance through the secretaries’ nonverbal communication.
This study is meaningful as a basic study that presents nonverbal communication systematically through secretaries’ experience. The results of this study can be used as basic educational materials for novice secretaries and students in secretarial science, providing useful information on nonverbal communication.
