국내외 노인요양시설 로비의 바이오필릭 디자인 패턴 사례 분석 = Analysis of Biophilic Design Patterns in Domestic and International Elderly Care Facility Lobbies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 증가하는 노인요양시설 입소자들의 새로운 환경 적응 및 삶의 질 향상을 위해 바이오필릭 디자인의 적용 방안을 모색하였다. 본 연구는 이를 위해 노인요양시설의 로비와 바이오필릭 디자인 패턴을 고찰하고 20곳의 국내외 노인요양시설 로비 이미지를 수집하였다. 이를 토대로, 노인요양시설 로비의 바이오필릭 디자인 적용 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 국내 노인요양시설은 벽천, 실내 연못과 같은 역동적인 물의 요소, 자연의 유기적인 형태, 질서 있는 복잡한 형태의 공간 구조, 안전함과 개방감을 동시에 제공하는 아트리움 및 개방형 다층 구조, 소규모 휴식 공간, 시각적 개방성을 위한 오픈스페이스가 필요하다. 본 연구는 노인요양시설 로비의 바이오필릭 디자인 적용에 대한 효과 및 필요성을 논의하고, 기존의 사례 동향 및 바이오필릭 디자인 특징을 통해 향후 적용 방안을 모색하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

This study explores the application strategies of biophilic design in the lobbies of elderly care facilities to support residents’ adaptation to new environments and enhance their overall quality of life. To this end, the research reviews the conceptual roles of elderly care facilities and lobbies, along with established biophilic design patterns. A total of 20 lobby images from domestic and international elderly care facilities were collected and analyzed to identify and compare the characteristics of biophilic design applications. According to the findings, international cases demonstrated a more balanced application of biophilic design patterns across spatial, natural, and sensory dimensions, highlighting the importance of integrating multiple elements. In contrast, domestic facilities were found to underutilize elements such as atriums and open multi-layer structures that balance safety with openness, visually connected open spaces, and small-scale resting areas, despite their therapeutic potential. Additionally, domestic contexts need dynamic water features such as wall fountains and indoor ponds, organic forms inspired by nature, and spatial compositions characterized by ordered complexity. This study contributes to understanding biophilic design in elderly care settings by visually analyzing its presence in real-world lobby spaces and suggesting practical design directions.
